Matt came to racing relatively recently; having ridden briefly in 1986, he then had 17 years away before returning in 2006. Initially racing road and time trials, he soon switched to cyclo-cross and has focussed on this ever since. In 2009 he summited the infamous Mont Ventoux, one of cycling's ultimate pilgrimages. 2013 saw Matt complete the ride from Land's End to John O'Groats in a scant 7 1/2 days, dispensing with unfinished business from 1987 when he'd ridden from Lands End to Nottingham. 2014 saw another of cycling's "must-do's" ticked off as Matt competed in the gruelling 38 miles of the 3 Peaks cyclocross race.
