Definition

1. Fossa are Madagascar’s top native predator - as featured in the 2005 movie Madagascar.

2. Fossa is also the technical term for a pit or hollow - like every off-roader's favourite, the bomb hole.

Pronunciation: [fos-uh] /ˈfÉ’s É™/

Fossa [Cryptoprocta ferox]

An endangered type of mongoose that grows up to 6 feet long, they were previously thought to be cats - in fact they are still sometimes known as fossa cats. They are fantastically agile when hunting in trees and have retractable claws characteristic of cats. They are threatened by extensive deforestation and are vulnerable to extinction.
